well that's a really subjective question...."too much" is anything you can't afford or are uncomfortable paying...if you're looking for dress shops in the area I HIGHLY recommend Jeanette's, but it's in the northern Virginia area. They have a big selection of dresses in a wide range of prices, from high end to budget. And their seamstresses are incredible. http://www.jeanettesbride.com/

A lot of non-couture dresses average around $1500, but you can always get a deal by waiting for a sale, trunk show, or getting a store discount by getting your bridesmaid dresses there. I've heard good things about Carine's in Georgetown for this price range.
And of course there's always David's Bridal if you're on a tighter budget, and shops like Rizik Bros if your budget is unlimited!
Either way, make sure you have fun shopping!
